In-between interviews, Sam and I explored a tiny little piece of the city - Zilker Park. It was absolutely amazing! 5 minutes in this park and I was already head over heals for Austin and falling even more in love with Texas. This state has so much to offer! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Georgia and I know I'll start missing it soon enough, but right now - I have this starry eyed view of Texas that I hope never goes away.
Look at all of that greenery!

One day when Sam and I have more time, we'll be the ones kayaking the Colorado River through Austin. :-) I can't wait! |
Sam had a job interview in Euless, TX the Tuesday after our quick day trip to Austin (day 3 of our arrival). This time we drove 1 hour and 15 minutes Northeast from Granbury and got to experience a different side of Texas. There was traffic (nothing like Atlanta traffic though), flat fields that seemed to go on forever with the bluest skies above (still beautiful scenery!), and we drove through the city of Fort Worth to get to Euless. From what I could tell with our quick drive through, Fort Worth is a smaller city that is packed full of culture. I'm looking forward to seeing what Fort Worth is all about!
While Sam interviewed in Euless, I decided to go on a mini-Adventure of my own.
My theory is that you can tell a lot about the vibe of a city through their most popular local coffee shops and bars, so I decided to hit up a local coffee shop that was 8 minutes away from Sam's interview location.
Buon Giorno Coffee is in a city called Grapevine that is right out side of Euless and Fort Worth. It's located in a small strip of shops, so from the outside it looked pretty normal. Inside, however, you are hit with welcoming smiles from the baristas and the delicious smell of freshly brewed coffee. The atmosphere is most definitely friendly and laid back with a very fresh feel. There are comfy couches, intimate table settings, and a bar area by the massive windows that make up the front of the shop. These large windows allow for the sunshine to pour in and fill Buon Giorno with lots of natural light.
I ordered myself a lemon poppy scone and iced coffee (something I will be ordering a lot of during the hot summers) and found a big blue cushioned chair that swallowed me into a comfortable abyss with a side table next to it. I sat in that big comfy chair with my legs crossed indian style, ear phones plugged in my ears playing me the musical tunes of Lorde, sipping on my iced black coffee, and mindlessly droned the interwebs for jobs on my laptop while waiting for the queue to pick Sam up from his interview.
Sam's interview went extremely well, because the next thing I knew it had been two full hours since I was pulled into that comfortable abyss!
Buon Giorno Coffee and Grapevine got two big thumbs up from me! Next time I'll need to hit up a local bar in the evening to get a feel for the cities night life culture.
I can totally see you two living in Austin. It's like Denver or Portland or Seattle, but more techy. Plus they have an amazing music scene.
