I would just like to say that my husband is the coolest man I know! He's so smart, extremely handsome, and the funniest, most lovable smart ass you'll ever meet. It's never a dull moment with this man of mine.
Sam celebrated his 33rd birthday last October. How awesome is that?!
(Okay, I know this post is WAY late, but now I actually have time to sit down and write.)
I pondered long and hard about what to get this soon to be 33 year old husband of mine for his birthday and let me tell ya folks, it was not an easy task at hand.
The idea for his gift came to me while in my small cubicle at work. I was looking out the 24th floor window in the office across from my cube and bam! I had the best idea. I knew it would be the perfect amount of 'wild' and 'spontaneous' for Sam.
"He's going to hate that.", they said. "Why would you do that?!", they said. "Do you know Sam at all?!", they said.
I was very certain that he would not like the idea at first, but after all was done he would absolutely love it.
Thankfully, Groupon had an amazing deal!
Sam knew what was going to happen as soon as I pulled into the McCollum Airport in Kennesaw, GA. He looked at me with a very stern look on his face and said: "NO WAY. I HATE FLYING! I am NOT getting in a plane! Are you crazy?! Do you know me at all???".
He definitely put up a stink when he found out that we would be flying in an open pit vintage bi-plane over Lake Allatoona and Kennesaw Mountain.
"Sam, it'll be SO much fun. Have an open mind and give it a chance. I know that you will absolutely LOVE it.", I said.
After 30 minutes of huffing and puffing (I got there an hour early, because I knew it'd take a little coaxing to get Sam out of the car), Sam finally got out of the car and walked (as slowly as possible) to the lobby of the very small airport.
The pilot was very friendly and explained all of the rules in great detail. My eyes were bright and excited, while Sam sulked with crossed arms. I won't lie, I was getting a little nervous that Sam really wouldn't like the gift and that I had been completely wrong about Sam loving it.
I told the pilot that Sam was kind of nervous. The pilot looked at Sam and asked him what the worst that could happen could be? Sam replied that he knew everything would be okay, but the pilot chuckled and said: "No, the worst that could happen would be that the plane crashes and blows up into a million little pieces.". That got a real belly laugh out of Sam and I could visibly see him relax. I relaxed more as well. :-)
The flight was amazing and Sam enjoyed every second of it. Sure enough, as soon as we landed Sam looked at me with a giant smile and said: "I would LOVE to do that again, but longer next time!".
Operation Find a Badass Bday Present for Sam was a success!
I would highly recommend Bi-Plane Adventures in Kennesaw, GA if you're in the area. It's a fun adventure!
